At a crowded beach I do the same thing. It’s a good way to get a spot that wasn’t available prior to arriving.

VE– I shoulda made some pithy comment about white people, and the dog providing protection for his owner, but I didn’t.

Another way to get a large spot on a crowded beach is to bring your boombox with a cd of the ScoobyDoo theme song… set on repeat. When they complain, do the same thing with the Archie’s “Sugar Sugar.” Continue until they leave or you are knocked unconscious.
