I had a high school classmate, Doug W., who’d doze off in chemistry class. We had to keep the windows open because the school didn’t have air conditioning, and flies would come in. Somehow Doug, with head down on his desk, would occasionally snap his hand out to catch a fly. Sometimes he’d catch more than one.

He’d pull threads off his ragged jeans (this was in the ’70s) and make little tethers that he’d tie around the flies’ thoraxes.

It was kinda fascinating watching Doug walk down the hall with three or more flies in the air, all on leashes.
