Here’s to Fess Parker (August 16, 1924 – March 18, 2010).
When Disney’s semi-historical series on Davy Crockett ran out (Crockett was killed at the Alamo), Fess Parker had garnered a lot of fans. What to do next? Cast him as Daniel Boone, of course.
As Daniel Boone, Fess Parker’s costar was Ed Ames, who portrayed an Indian scout. Here he is demonstrating his famous hatchet throwing skills.
Have a great weekend folks, and R.I.P. Mr Parker.

omigosh! Did Fess Parker die? Wayne and I were just talking about him last week. I was like,”Is he still alive!” and Wayne was “well, yeah, he’s only around 86,” and I was all “but he was around before we were born,” and Wayne was like, “…well, we’re not THAT old.”
Geeze Louize. I liked him as Dan’l Boone.

Leeuna– And raccoons all over the world breathed a sigh of relief…
A friend of mine stopped by his bed and breakfast inn/winery a few years back, found Fess Parker picking up trash around the property. Said he was very cordial, easy to talk to. Real down to earth kinda guy.

Should have known you’d have that Ed Ames video. Haven’t seen that in years.

cbull– I stuck it up there for our younger audience who might not have seen that classic. Live TV was live back then.

He was Daniel Boone and Davy Crockett! How cool is that? … Pretty cool!
I’ll always consider him Davy Crockett though.

plane– The Kentucky Headhunters did an interesting cover of “Davy Crockett.” The video is embarrassingly terrible.

In my opinion both the real life Mr Crockett and Mr Boone would have been proud to know that this gentleman portrayed them so well on film! He will always be Davy Crockett and Daniel Boone to us all. Rest In Peace Mr Parker and thank you for the memories!
