I’ve used both paper tape and mylar tape – and I’ve copied software onto them, not just read them. The mylar tape was an improvement over the paper, much more durable and waterproof to boot. We copied all our paper tape software to mylar.

I was playing with BASIC for a class in 7th grade. We didn’t patch, we taped torn paper. Then I graduated to IBM punch cards for Fortran. God forbid you dropped the stack.
