Saturday Matinee – Uke Covers! Yay!

by

Excellent version of  The Foundations’ “Build Me Up Buttercup.”  You know she’s singing to YOU…  wait for it. (Bunkessa found this one.)

Well, gabba gabba hey.

*Jake Shimabukuro’s Ukelele Gently Weeps.

*Led Zep on Uke with eggs and sausage and hot coffee.

*Minitallica!

Don’t forget the trainwreck previously posted here.

Videos marked with (*) were recobamended by saraH, who should have her own website by now but doesn’t.  She’s been lurking around for a long time, dropping rare occasional comments about batmobile babe magnets.

I had no idea that you could get those sounds out of a ukelele, and some of them, I wish you couldn’t (No. 2 and No. 5, but the other ones, especially 3 and 4 were very nicely done). No. 1 was just funny, especially knowing it was especially done for me. 🙂

  2. Bunk Strutts Says:

Unfin– I thought No.2 was done pretty well, especially given the absurd concept of the Ramones on ukes. I wouldn’t be surprised if No. 1 went viral, if it hasn’t already.

I’m sure George and Eric would be pleased with Jake’s rendition.

BTW, if you think that’s cool–have you ever heard of a Chapman Stick?? Neat guitar design.
Here’s a great version of “Little Wing.”

cbul– Nice link. First saw the stick in the ’70s, Weather Report.

I liked the Ramone’s cover … but it doesn’t sound as edgy for some reason.
I imagine that you look like the guy on the left in that video …. I could be wrong; I usually am. hee hee!

  7. Bunk Strutts Says:

plane– Their version of “Pinhead” is killer. As for my resemblance to the guy on the left… heh. I could probably pass him off as my (non-existant) younger brother. It’s not me, though, if that’s what you were thinking…
