  1. And that track by Williams is a great example of Beach Music, still thriving along the southeastern coasts. Obscure horn-backed (Chicago/Memphis influence methinketh) tunes that have little ear-time outside the beach areas. Very cool and my first listen.

      1. I get the difference in location context, and apologies for not making the distinction. The Northern Soul sound was captured by white guys in the South for party music, and Shag dancing. Soul is the soul of that genre and its elements are found in copy-cat styles in bands devoted to nothing but Beach tunes, though the deep soul from Chicago gets diluted the further you get from the source. The Chicago horns are vital to the archetype, and an excellent example is Major Lance and two of his hits, Monkey Time and Um, um, um, um, um.
