  1. Great playlist, as usual.
I had these and other thoughts on Memorial Day, and posted on FaceButt:

“Modernity has created a gap between spiritual reverence and an excuse for goofing off. Both observances have become diluted albeit with a scoop of often pretend “Thank you for your service” thrown in for veterans; for the dead the best we can do is learn from history and that is a poorly accomplished mission, and as Louis Jordan sang in ’46 “When you’re dead, you’re done”. There is no chance for un-doing what has been, and no going back to thank, say you’re sorry, or plea for forgiveness. And no going back to correct mistakes before they happen”.

Glad you liked the playlist. I play what catches my earballs, often something that reminds me of what I listened to on the cheap transistor AM radio I had as a kid.

I’ve met many people who I wished I’d talked with more when they were still alive. First-hand stories are more important than discussing sports or the weather. “Thank you for your service” always sounded disingenuous and hollow to me. On the other hand, “How did you get that scar?” often results in an amazing story.
