Saturday Matinee – Boston Dynamics, The Contours, RT n’ The 44s, Big Sandy and His Fly-Rite Boys & Roomful of Blues

Our whole crew got together to celebrate the start of what we hope will be a happier year: Happy New Year from all of us at Boston Dynamics. http://www.BostonDynamics.com.

Over 18M views and 97K comments since 29 December, and you’ve probably seen it already. I wonder what The Contours think of it.

The Contours‘ chart-topping 1962 hit Do You Love Me became a major hit again in 1988. I bet it scores a third time.

RT n’ the 44s has a laid back retro vibe with a large dollop of Johnny Cash. They’ve been described as “a vintage country band with dark obsessions.”

Big Sandy & His Fly-Rite Boys have been jammin’ it since 1988, and here’s their cover of Colin JamesJumpin’ From Six to Six.

One of the best big brass blues bands in the land is Roomful of Blues. More than 50 musicians have played in the band since its inception in 1967, and I’m not sure of this 2013 lineup.

Have a great weekend, folks, because there’s more on the way. See you tomorrow.

Saturday Matinee – Erecting Trajan’s Column, The Real McKenzies & Room Full Of Blues

Trajan’s Column: ancient technology animated. Trajan was a good guy, at least as far as Roman emperors go, and was popular for his public works projects. (His cousin Hadrian succeeded him and built a famous wall to keep out Celts, Scots, Picts & other badass tribes.)

Scottish-Canadian band The Real McKenzies. Nice scenery, unfortunate animations, and echoes of the Ramones.

Beyond the best bar band in the world, Roomful of Blues has been performing since 1967 (with an impressive roster).

Have a great weekend, folks. We’ll post some stuff tomorrow.

Saturday Matinee – Grace Potter & The Nocturnals, Big Brother & The Holding Company, Roomful Of Blues

Grace Potter and The Nocturnals performing “Treat Me Right” at the 8×10 in Baltimore, MD on September, 14 2006. They pretty much nailed the Big Brother & The Holding Company sound.

So here is Janis Joplin with BB & The HC  “Summmertime / I need a man to Love” at the Holllywood Palace Oct. 26 1968.

Roomful of Blues is a great band to see live. Here they are in 2010 with Big Joe Turner‘s “Boogie Woogie Country Girl.”

That’s it for today. Have a great weekend folks.
