I haven’t gotten through the list, but late night radio from KRMG is a time capsule well worth visiting.

The recording sounds authentic. You could almost navigate by the clarity of the AM radio signals; as one fades out, find a new one that gets stronger as time passes. Listen to the farm reports while waiting for Paul Harvey at 5am. The portable cassette player was for emergencies only.

WLS from Chicago was a companion during early morning commutes to tech school; it was listenable in NC until daybreak. First year out of high school, 60 mph in a Dodge Dart with two other carpoolers for an hour, AM was all I could offer. One of the boys had a ’65 Galaxy with an aftermarket 8-track, he had an FM converter we’d use to pick up stations when the sun was up.
