Saturday Matinee – BoDeans, The Terraplane Blues Band, and Tom Principato w/ Danny Gatton

BoDeans formed in 1986 in Waukesha, Wisconsin, and they’re still at it. Described as “one of the most successful, and best known, bands to come out of the Milwaukee area,” BoDeans is included in a permanent installation on artists from the Midwest at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Video was recorded at the Stoughton Opera House, Stoughton WI in 2024.

Formed in Bristol circa 2013, The Terraplanes Blues Band were shortlisted as one of the top 20 blues bands in the UK by the UK Blues Federation, and awarded the prestigious Emerging Blues Act of the Year at the 2023 UK Blues Awards.

1984 jazzy blues jam by Tom Principato and Danny Gatton (1945-1994).
From YouTube comments: “This song is Tom’s Samba, not How’s Your Sister. Sister was performed on the same studio taping, but is more of a Bill Doggett blues shuffle. Danny originally recorded Sister as a member of the Soul Mates band around 1966 when they worked on a Potomac cruise ship. The 45 is extremely rare.”

Lotta news a-poppin’ this week, with fires and chemical spills, Ebola outbreaks, UFO files and Memorial Day sales. Good time for a three-day weekend, and we’ll discuss it all at porchtime tomorrow. See you there.

Saturday Matinee – The Band of the Bold, Where The Hell Is Matt, Where’s Rob, Iron Horse Bluegrass & Danny Gatton

I honestly don’t know what to make of it, but thanks to Bunkarina you get to see it, too. Reminded me of this viral vid from 2006:

Matt Harding was an internet sensation back then, and I was surprised to hear the soundtrack, lifted from a relatively obscure CD from 1992 that I own but don’t recall buying.

Where The Hell Is Matt?” reminded me of this classic prank:

That innocent stunt still makes me grin.

Iron Horse Bluegrass consists of Tony Robinson (mandolin), Vance Henry (Guitar), Anthony Richardson (banjo) and Ricky Rogers (bass). Iron Horse has recorded twelve projects for CMH Records. Tributes to Metallica, Led Zeppelin, Ozzy Osbourn, Modest Mouse, The Shins, Guns & Roses, The Goo Goo Dolls, Hank Williams, Black label Society as well as others. [h/t Aussie Phil.]

Danny Gatton is a national treasure.

Have a great weekend, folks. There’s more fun on the horizon.

Saturday Matinee: AmIdol O NOES + Animation, Danny Gatton, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Buddy Guy

When you’re an 11-year-old girl at a sleep over, watching the results of “American Idol,” some things matter A LOT. [via Woosk.]

This is kinda cool, even though it’s contrived and the music drips with lameosity. Combines Picasso, Dali, Van Gogh and Escher imagery.

Thanks a wad to TR Commenter Breon for reminding me of the late great Danny Gatton. Here’s a kickass medley of Sun Records hits, in typical out-of-sync Utoobage fashion.

But I remember Gatton for THIS incredible stunt. (Phil, y’all pane-tension?)

Here’s Bunk’s favorite pissed-off blues crank, from Stevie Ray Vaughan.

Shortly after Vaughan passed on, Buddy Guy fronted SRV’s band, Double Trouble, on Austin City Limits in 1991. Here’s his tribute version of “You Better Leave My Little Girl Alone”.
