by

[1st one was snipped from this cartoon. Second is an eye-witness .gif  Guy’s cutting rebar for dowels and burning his pants at the same time. 3rd .gif is the way high-rise steel buildings were once constructed, with red-hot iron rivets tossed from below.]

  1. Leonard Jones Says:

When I was a kid, I HATED spinach! I also got the line from
my mother that Popeye eats spinach and it makes him strong.
I won that battle of wills, but about 20 years ago I learned the
scientist who measured the amount of iron in spinach made
    an error.

He put a decimal point in the wrong place which exaggerated the
amount of iron in spinach by a factor of 10. If my mother were
still alive, I would give her a big I told you so!

  2. Bunk Strutts Says:

    Leonard J–

I was an aberration. I liked spinach with vinegar, and Popeye reinforced it. I wanted to open a can by squeezing it with my fist and suck it in through a tobacco pipe so I could beat the crap out of Jay Neidermeyer.

No idea which cartoon character got me to like asparagus.
