Happy New Year’s Eve 2023 – End of Year Playlist

Thought I might do something different this New Years Eve. Buried in the Archives are over 100 tunes that deserve a replay, at least in my opinion. Some are pure awesome, others are eye-rollers, but all are songs that pleased my earballs in 2023. Each set is in no particular order, one click and you’re off to the races. Have at it.

Set 1 – January, February, March

Set 2 – April, May, June, July

Set 3 – August, September, October, November & December

And one more thing: Happy New Year!

Auld Lang Syne Boogie, Freddie Mitchell Orchestra (1949)

[Caveat: I don’t own the copyrights to any of these recordings. They are presented here for entertainment purposes only. Apologies for the typo in the first track – That’s Stéphane Grappelli.]

          1. Funny that you mention B-sides. I just commented on Extexanwannabe’s blog about me always looking for great tunes on the flipside of 45rpms back in the day and playing the good ones when I would dee jay dances and parties. That was back in my late junior high and high school days. I actually went by “B-side Bob” at the time.

          2. That was one of my high-school pipe dreams, to co-host a B-Side radio show. Then I had an epiphany in college: I was stunned to learn that many of my favorite rock songs were covers, and found that the original versions were as good or better. Van Halen vs. Louis Prima (Just A Gigolo) for example.

    1. Dittos! Thanks for the feedback on the playlist, too. Everyone’s got different tastes in music, and I’ve got most of the flavors on the menu (despite the missus’ occasional eyerolls). I’ll throw together another one in a month or so – stay tuned.

      1. So, get this, I’m in my office minding my business, and I gets me a phonie call from our IT boys.
Seems your excellent site is among many deemed dangerous for human consumption while at the workieplace.
        Imagine my disappointment!
So commenting will be after hours since traffic is monitored on wifi as well, and the smartie-phone is just awkward.
        Big Brother and all that.
        Best to you and yours!

        1. Dan– You are the first in over 16 years that has ever mentioned a problem like that.

I’d be interested to know what set off the alarm. as this site runs on unmodified WordPress software, and the only triggers I can think of are IP trackers / cookies from automated embedded advertisements. I could turn thrm off, but they pay for the premium hosting service. Clicking on embedded links, well, you’re on your own. Occasionally I’ll run across something that sets off Malwarebytes, but I don’t link to those sites; ditto a poor WOT rating (despite occasional false positives). I can’t imagine content had anything to do with it.

Next time you talk to your techies, ask them what made their algorithm blow chunks. I’m curious.
