Koko Understands Sarcasm, Cats, Politics

“Koko the gorilla is famous for mastering more than 1,000 signs based on American Sign Language, which she uses to communicate with Stanford researchers.

“That’s not all she’s learned from humans. One day her attendants discovered that a steel sink in her enclosure had been torn from its moorings. When they confronted her, she pointed to her pet kitten.

“‘Cat did it’, she signed.”

Strutts News Services was granted an exclusive interview with Koko, and asked the following questions, in ASL:

Saturday Matinee: Stuff (in no particular order)

Pete Drake is kinda famous in a way you’d never suspect after watching this.  I love it. [Found here.]

Ms. Cellanea found this original version of Jurassic Park.

One of the prettiest but saddest Country Rock songs ever recorded:  “Melissa” by the Allman Bros.

On the other hand, the Allmans’ “Jessica” lifts the load. Roadtrip music at its best.

Okay. Y’all heard of Bo Diddley.  Here’s the Diddley Bo played by a master, Seasick Steve.  All rhythm; raw as y’all can get.

(That last one’s for Roo Skinner Phil.  Give him a howdy and tell him Bunk sent you.)

A POW STORY: John McCain

[Folks, I’ve decided to make this post “sticky” and it will remain on top of the daily posts until after the election. Regardless of your political affiliation, please take the time to view the video and read the article linked below. Meanwhile, daily posts will follow below this one as usual. –Bunk]

VIDEO AND MORE BELOW THE BREAK. Continue reading “A POW STORY: John McCain”

PacMan’s Left Nostril

Or maybe it’s Sisyphus‘ Vacation.

It’s more commonly known as Venus, attempting in vain to eclipse the Sun.  Venus never stops trying (just like Sisyphus).

[More very cool images of immense far away stuff here.]

Casa de Caracol

Don’t let these images fool you:
The house is only about 8 inches tall!

“This Russian lady from Petrozavodsk, Russia, now living at Helsinki, Finland has made this stunning mini-snail house. The true size of the interior details can be understood looking at her fingers on the photos.”

[Caption in quotes from English Russia, with more images here. You want life size caracoles? Lookee here.]

Logging Blogging

No Photoshopoopage here.  This is cutting edge, wave of the future stuff.  I already posted it here, and there’s no reason that you folks should be left out of the loop.  Check it out:

No clear-cutting, only culling of old timbers, without the logging roads.  Ingenious, but slow and expensive.

More Hot Covers

(Ciclk ot mkae tehm bgeigr.)

What scares me about these is that they have SOUNDS. SOUNDS that someone liked enough to purchase, so that they could hear the SOUNDS over and over again.  (I completely understand wanting to have THIS compilation, and if I ever get a cell phone, the ringtone’s gonna be Leonard Emmanuel’s “Old Timey Holler.”)

[Strider has an excellent collection of crappy album covers, with commentary, here.  Related TR archive post here. New crappiness from here.]
