Just rediscovered this 2008 Russian compilation of animations done with Post-It Notes (by Andrey Bakhurin).

“Welcome to ‘Trombone Talk’ and today’s guest is Stephen Walker (I call him Steve). He is one of my old friend since I’ve been here, we used to hang around at the YUKI Izakaya on Frenchmen Street (they closed down in October 2016), and yes, great Trombone player.”

Haruka Kikuchi has earned the title of Queen of the Tailgate Trombone.

One of the prettiest songs ever written.
R.I.P. Michael Nesmith.

Hope y’all have a great weekend and we’ll be here all day tomorrow.

Saturday Matinee – Old Crow Medicine Show, New Grass Revival & John McEuen

“Caroline” by the Old Crow Medicine Show reminds me of the NGR. Great pickin’ with great harmonies. So let’s go there.

New Grass Revival with Béla Fleck (circa who knows) playing “Deviation.” That reminds me of the NGDB. So let’s go there. One of my favorite songs by The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band is “Some of Shelly’s Blues.” Rather than post a vid of the original recording and have you stare at an album cover, here’s a live version by John McEuen:

John McEuen, Nathan McEuen, Scott Gates, Chelsea Williams at the Coffee Gallery, Altadena, California 29 March 2007.

“There’s nothin’ so hard about the life that you’ve led”
is the best line of the whole song, written by Michael Nesmith (yeah, THAT Michael Nesmith. Check this out.)

Have a great weekend, folks. Ignore the snow.

Saturday Matinee – Laurie, Suzanne & Joanne

The always odd Laurie Anderson can’t pronounce the Espaniel worth a Me Air Duh, but she’s entertaining in her own way.

I was gonna segue into Suzanne Vega, but I forgot how depressing her songs were. So then I looked for Suzy Bogguss, and remembered that I’d already covered her on an earlier Saturday Matinee Post.

So I’m thinking of Suzanne songs and decided to  go with Michael Nesmith’s “Joanne”  because it rhymes. But there are no decent vids on the Utoobage that do justice for the ex-Monkee’s greatest hit, except for this:

Meanwhile, here’s Joanne’s greatest hit. Have a great weekend folks.
