In My Gremlin, The Rave-Ups (1985) The Rave-Ups formed in 1979 at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. After some lineup changes and a relocation to Los Angeles, they hit the indie rock scene of the 1980s with some success. Their appearance in the 1986 movie Pretty In Pink gave them nationwide exposure, but problems with record company promotion and distribution stifled their career.

Saturday Matinee – Christopher Ameruoso, Sonia Sanchez, & The Rave-Ups.

Don’t know much about these two, but I’ll say this. Christopher Ameruoso has a nice cigar-box slide style, but he’d do better without his cutesy mugging. On the other hand, any woman who can slap a lime green stand-up bass like Sonia Sanchez gets my vote.

Serious PsychoPunkaBilly there, and Sanchez slaps the hell out of that bass. Let’s take it down a notch. I was about to post The Rave Ups’ classic “In My Gremlin” but maybe we should go with this instead.

What a great groove. The Rave-Ups were underrated and deserved more recognition IMO, but MO doesn’t count, by the way.

By the way, how ’bout a crappy but excellent video of The Rave-Ups featuring frontman Jimmer Podrasky?

The Rave-Ups were underrated IMO, but they got some traction for their work in a B-minus movie, Pretty In Pink, and In My Gremlin is my favorite Rave-Ups song, also for obvious reasons.
