Saturday Matinee – The Walkers Blues Band, Ronnie Earl & the Broadcasters, Thorbjørn Risager & The Black Tornado

The Walkers Blues Band cover Slim Harpo’s Te Ni Nee Ni Nu. I couldn’t find details about the group other than they made their debut in 2015 at the Festival Internacional de Blues de Asunción, Paraguay.

Ronnie Earl and the Broadcasters need no introduction. Fun fact: Ronnie Earl (aka Ronald Horvath) was born in Queens, NY, and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Education & Special Education from Boston University.

Since their beginnings as a Copenhagen bar band, Thorbjørn Risager & The Black Tornado have been dubbed Denmark’s premier roots-rockers. The septet has performed in Scandinavia, Europe, Canada, the US and Asia for the past twenty years.

Thanksgiving is just around the corner and right after that comes the best part: leftovers. The porch shall open promptly at noonish tomorrow for weather observation. Be there.

Saturday Matinee – Swamp Dogg, Tamio Okuda w/ Super Chikan Johnson, and Ronnie Earl & The Broadcasters

Seems like Swamp Dogg has been around forever; he’s 90 and still recording: “Every time I listen to some new music that everybody thinks is the greatest thing since hot biscuits, it’s full of Auto-Tune.” He decided to give it a go, and used it to give “a sense of  emotional detachment” on his album Love, Loss and Auto-Tune (2022).

Tamio Okuda’s Blues. (2014). The guy on jerry can guitar is Tamio Okuda, and that’s James “Super Chikan” Johnson.

Ronnie Earl & The Broadcasters in 2013.

I’ll be around all day tomorrow. See you then.

Saturday Matinee – Imelda May, Jimmy & The Rackets; Ron Levy & Ronnie Earl; J. Geils, Duke Robillard & Gerry Beaudoin

Imelda May is way cool. That’s her version of  Buddy Holly’s “Looking For Love” which was also covered by The Stray Cats. It was never covered by Andy Tielman as far as I know, but here on The Saturday Matinee, one vid and three links just don’t make the nut.

Yep. That’s Jimmy & The Rackets as if I had to tell you, but now I’m torn between two more vids to post. I’ll resolve the dilemma by posting them both, back-to-back, because each of them made me smile for different reasons. Have a great weekend folks, and we’ll see you back here tomorrow.
