You Didn’t Try To Call Me, The Mothers of Invention (1968) Track 8 of TMOI‘s debut album Freak Out! – a double record set of songs composed by Frank Zappa that won the Grammy Hall of Fame Award in 1999, and ranks at No. 246 on Rolling Stone magazine’s 2012 list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

  1. That’s the version of “You Didn’t Try To Call Me” from the Mothers Of Invention’s third album “Cruisin’ With Ruben and the Jets”. Here’s the original from “Freak Out”:

    I really love both albums. A radio station here in the Pittsburgh area used to play a song by the Mothers back in the late 60s called “I’m Not Satisfied” that gave me chills. I ran out to get it and saw that it was on
    Freak Out”. Went home and played it, but it was a completely different version of that tune. Played the rest of the album though and was blown away. Found out later that the version I wanted was on “Ruben and the Jets”. I really got into the Mothers and Zappa…..

    1. Taminator– You’re absolutely correct, and I thought of Ruben & the Jets at the last minute when I heard Flo & Eddie doing background vocals. They weren’t with Zappa when Freakout came out. Dang, now I have to post a correction!
