Saturday Matinee – HatFitz and Cara, Marc Amacher & The Thilo Wolf Big Band

HatFitz and Cara: “Aussie bluesman and Irish Songstress get married, form a band and make great music together. This shabby hill country blues oozes cool”. Guitar & Bass Magazine.

Swiss gravel-voiced guitarist Marc Amacher plays his mashup of roots blues, gospel, rock and funk – someone called it “dirty blues-rock of traditional style”.

The Thilo Wolf Big Band, the Thilo Wolf Jazz Quartet and the Thilo Wolf Groove Selection are all groups created by German pianist and composer Thilo Wolf. What a coincidence.

Had the house main water line replaced yesterday (weasels chewed up the old one) so we can shower and flush the toilets, then we had an internest downage last evening so this post was delayed a bit. The porch is open for business.

Saturday Matinee – Bill Plympton’s Boney D, Elise LeGrow & Jools Holland and his Rhythm & Blues Orchestra

Boney D. (1996) by Bill Plympton & Jonathan Lee . Better than computer animation, and Plymptoons always made me smile.

Elise LeGrow‘s unusual take on Fontella Bass’ 1965 hit Rescue Me is sultry and sleazy, yet still respectful to the original.

Boogie woogie master Jools Holland and his Rhythm & Blues Orchestra head over to Fat Freddie’s Place. Don’t know who the soloists are in this lineup, but that trumpet player melts it.

Saturday Matinee – Johnny Blues Cárdenasis, Percy Wiggins & The Bo-Keys, & Wycliffe Gordon’s Big Band

Johnny  “Johnny Blues” Cárdenasis is a blind self-taught street  musician from Santiago, Chile, who plays nothing but roots blues. There are  interviews with him on the Utoobage, but they lack captions and my Spanish is rusty.

Saturday Matinee – Christmas Songs from the Bands of the USN, USA, USAF, USCG & USSF

The United States Air Force Band jazzed it up a bit. None of that hillbilly crap for them (even though they’re all rednecks).

The United States Coast Guard Band played one of my favorites. Kinda.

The United States Marine Band did a good job with this one.

The United States Space Force Band is still in it’s infancy, but this works as a placeholder.

Saturday Matinee – Atlas Shrugs, Wendy’s Training Rap & an Awesome Jam

Now THIS should be awesome. Part I of  Ayn Rand’s “Atlas Shrugged” is scheduled for release on 15 April 2011, and the date is no coincidence. I guarantee the movie will be trashed by leftists even before it’s released, just as Terry Gilliam’s great movie  “Brazil” was panned.

Meanwhile, for those of you who don’t know how to put ice in a cup and fill it with soda, and can’t follow directions as simple as “put ice in the cup and fill it with soda,” here’s Wendy’s Rap Tutorial.

How a song was born. A lotta glorious awesome was congregated in that room and recorded on celluloid.
