While looking for a decent live version of “Welcome to The Machine” I found this. Jacquelyn Adams‘ tribute to Pink Floyd [“Dr. Jacquelyn, Mr. Hyde,”  Horn Day, 10 February 2012, York University, Toronto, Ontario] and it begins with that song.

Given the atrocities of yesterday, we might as well leave the number of vids posted at three, and the selections are in no way a commentary. Hug your kids and loved ones, pray for the victims, and we’ll be back here tomorrow.

Saturday Matinee – Funny Dude, A Capella, Slugs, and PF Live

Don’t know who these folks are, but “Oh Gee” was a hit in 1955 by the Crows. Could be them.

The Persuasions were/are possibly the most underrated acapella group (featuring bass singer Jimmy Hayes, who Frank Zappa called “the human sub-woofer”).

“Legendary musician Frank Zappa and his wife Gail discovered The Persuasions (in a commercial sense) in 1968. At the urging and encouragement of a good friend of the Persuasions, David Dashev (who eventually became the groups producer and manager), Zappa listened to a tape of The Persuasions. Shortly after listening to the tape, Frank and Gail Zappa signed the group to their label. The Persuasions debut album ‘Straight’ was a mix of studio and live recordings released during the fall of 1970.”

This is an old one from the Beeb, narrated by David Attenborough.  It’s cool, bizarre and gross at the same time, but it’s nature. I posted it just because  Thelit said her kids and their friends love this kinda stuff.  Go for it.

After the Slugs (wasn’t that a Grateful Dead tune, or maybe a Peter Sellars movie?) this may help clean your eye sockets. Other than the dopey devilpigs,  it’s all cool.

Saturday Matinee: Nana, Pink, Eric & Ma

This video sums up my attitude for the last few weeks. Thank God that there are people like  raincoaster to find and approves gems like this.  Okay. Next.

Pink Floyd was at their best in the early/mid 1970’s, at least until “Animals” came out.  Speaking of Animals…

Eric Burdon was a classic.  What a gloriously depressing  song of frustration and hope against reality and cool chord patterns and stuff. [That was snarkasm.]  Gotta deal with what’s coming down, y’all.

Okay, I could fill up this post with a big ‘ol honkin’ wad of Eric Burdon and the Animals, Eric Burdon & War, but you can easily googoyle them for yourselves.  Lets talk about one of their 1967 hits, “See See Rider” instead.

It was a ripoff of Ma Rainey/others.  C.C. Rider, according to Bunk’s sources, referred to the Chitlin’ Circuit bluesplayers’ route through the south.

Couldn’t find Ma Rainey’s version of C.C. Rider, but here’s this excellent and nasty “Booze & Blues.”
