Saturday Matinee – Vi Hart, Otros Aires, The Head Cat & Gunhild Carling

Vi Hart has put together some amazing videos over the years – her series Doodling in Math Class is excellent. [h/t Memo Of The Air]

Otros Aires is “a 21 Century Audiovisual ElectroTango project created,  produced and directed by the Argentinean musician, architect & video artist Miguel Di Genova. It was made between Barcelona and Buenos Aires ports in 2003.“

The Head Cat, live at The Key Club, West Hollywood, California, May 6th, 2010, consisted of Slim Jim Phantom (Stray Cats) Lemmy Kilmister (Motörhead) & Danny B. Harvey (Rockats). Lemmy died in 2015 at the age of 70 and was replaced by David Vincent (Morbid Angel).

Gunhild Carling is amazing. Someone told her the bag pipes are a musical instrument so she played them.

Saturday Matinee – Germs and You, The First Edition, Gunhild Carling & Elvin Bishop

Yankovic tweeted this out recently as a public service announcement.

The First Edition (featuring Kenny Rogers on bass & vocals) had their first big hit in 1968.

Gunhild Carling is amazing. According to Wiki, she plays trombone, bagpipes, trumpet, recorder, string instruments (such as banjo, ukulele and harp) and can also play three trumpets simultaneously.

So where do we go from here? Oh wait. I got it.

Haven’t heard that song since high school. Elvin Bishop had a few minor hits, but never got the recognition he deserved despite touring with the Allman Bros. (According to the comments on the Utoobage, I wasn’t the only one who thought the other guitar was Dickie Betts – it was Johnny ‘V’ Vernazza.)

Saturday Matinee – Crater Face, Postmodern Jukebox, Gunhild Carling & The Best Moth Joke You’ve Ever Heard

“Crater Face” is an animated short about two lonely moon pimples and a deranged astronaut (by Skyler Page).

BUT WAIT! THERE’S MORE!

I knew a guy who could play two saxes at the same time (with rubber bands holding down a couple of keys) and I can believe that someone might be able play two trumpets simultaneously, but three? Had there not been a video I’d have never believed it.

The song is “El Manisero“  (aka “The Peanut Vendor) and it dates to 1930s Cuba. Stan Kenton’s version is my favorite because of all the discordant stuff that he worked into it.

Classic Norm MacDonald delivery.
