Cyriak Harris strikes again with a music video for the band Light.
[via Ms. Cellanea].

Hubert Sumlin & Sunnyland Slim (with Willie Dixon on bass & Clifton James on drums) from The Stars of the 1964 American Folk Blues Festival, a German television program. Sonny Boy Williamson II did the introduction.

Scott H. Biram is a one-man ass-kickin’ rock machine. (Reposted from about ten years ago).

I’m yawning, gotta go, see you back here tomorrow.

Saturday Matinee – Live at Crossroads 2010: Hubert Sumlin, Jimmie Vaughn and Robert Cray; Pino Daniele, Joe Bonamassa and Robert Randolph & The Family Band; AND ZZ Top

Wow. Hubert Sumlin, Jimmie Vaughan and Robert Cray at the 2010 Crossroads Guitar Festival.

Wow again. Pino Daniele, Joe Bonamassa with Robert Randolph & The Family Band were also at the 2010 CGF.

Good God can these three put out some loud! ZZ Top at the same place, same year.

It just dawned on me that it’s been 10 years since all that awesome went down. Lotta time flies buzzing around my head these days.

Have a great weekend, folks. Do what you wanna do, go where you wanna go. Don’t worry about a thing, and always remember: it’s not the heat, it’s the humanity. See you tomorrow.

Saturday Matinee – Jim Bruce & Ken Mayall, SRV & Howlin’ Wolf

Jim Bruce on guitar, Ken Mayall on harmonica.

How ’bout we take a stroll down Travis?

Stevie Ray Vaughan cranked it with ??? on ”Night Music” January1989, Los Angeles, CA. I’m not sure who he’s jamming with, couldn’t find credits. It appears to be Hiram Bullock guitar, Omar Hakim on drums, ??? bass, ??? keyboards. Lemme know and I’ll update the credits.

Howlin’ Wolf & Hubert Sumlin (and yeah, Jimmy Page stole that riff as well as the lyrics from Wolf’s Killing Floor for Lemon Song ).

Have a great holiday sandwich weekend, folks. See you back here tomorrow for things and stuff.

Saturday Matinee – Free Range Grains, Animal TV, Chuck Mead, Hubert Sumlin & David Johansen

Free range farm [via].

Animal TV has a great soundtrack. [h/t Phil]

Chuck Mead‘ “Girl On The Billboard.” Thank God for country kickers who compose clever ballads that actually rhyme, and Chuck Mead is one of them.

Hubert Sumlin and David Johansen (New York Dolls) with a killer version of Howlin’ Wolf‘s “Smokestack Lightning.” From the Utoobage comments:

“I don’t know where it came from originally but this is on the extras of the DVD ‘Blues: The Road to Memphis.’

That should do it for another edition of The Saturday Matinee. Have a better than mediocre weekend and be back here tomorrow for mediocrity PLUS.

Saturday Matinee – Zappa & Zappa & Tesh, The Sensational Alex Harvey Band, Sonny Boy Williamson & Co.

Ahmet & Dweezil Zappa with John Tesh and a lady in a box on Conan O’Brien‘s show. [Found here].

The Sensational Alex Harvey Band circa 1973. The SAHB was popular in the UK, but didn’t catch on in the US (with the exception of the Cleveland Ohio region).

On 4 February 1982, a day short of his 47th birthday, Harvey suffered a massive heart attack while waiting to take a ferry from Zeebrugge, Belgium back to England after performing a Belgian gig with his new band, the Electric Cowboys. He suffered a second fatal attack in an ambulance on the way to hospital [Wiki].

Getting Out Of Town – Awesome lineup from 1963:
Sonny Boy Williamson Vocal, Harmonica
Sunnyland Slim: Piano
Hubert Sumlin: Guitar
Willie Dixon: Bass
Clifton James: Drums

That should do it for today’s edition of The Saturday Matinee. Have a great weekend, folks.

Saturday Matinee – Sugar Pie DeSanto, Hubert Sumlin, Sunnyland Slim, Willie Dixon & Clifton James

Here’s Sugar Pie DeSanto‘s version of Jimmy Reed‘s 1955 hit “Baby What You Want Me To Do,” backed by  Hubert Sumlin/Guitar, Sunnyland Slim/Piano, Willie Dixon/Bass & Clifton James/Drums (1964).

Here’s some more: Hubert Sumlin, Sunnyland Slim and Willie Dixon, with “Come On Home Baby.” (1964)

The Chicago Blues Allstars (undated) featuring Willie Dixon/Bass, Lafeyete Leake/Piano, Lee Jackson/Guitar, Clifton James/Drums.

Got it? Good. Have a great weekend, folks.

Saturday Matinee – Art Laffer, Bladecam, Polar Bearings, Mancini Mangling, Hubert Sumlin

Economist Art Laffer in a video from June 2009. Amazing how few people have seen this private chat. It’s well worth viewing. (Although Jeff Berkowitz’ intro is good, it’s long. The fun starts at 05:20 with WSJ’s Steve Moore’s intro. Laffer begins at 07:40.)

Yep. Already viral, but so what. [Found here.]

Very cool polar bears destroy some very cool spy cams.

Doesn’t make any sense to me to have high-tech spy cams when the ecologists obviously have the capability of filming the bears destroying the custom expensive equipment in the first place. Cut the research budget in half or more by giving the bears boxes to tear up. Better yet, just quit pestering them. A polar bear’s job is to hunt, kill and eat fish, seals, sea lions, etc., and not to waste precious energy messing with electronics. [via]

Funny, creepy and disturbing.

Ever hear of Hubert Sumlin? No? Then check this out.

From the Utoobage comments:

Before there was Jimmy Page, before there was Angus Young, before there was Jimi Hendrix, before there was Stevie Ray Vaughn…

…there was Hubert Sumlin.

Have a great weekend, folks.  See you back here tomorrow.
