Saturday Matinee – Snow Prank, Doobie Brothers, Allman Brothers & Jay Leno

For those without boots, we salute you.

Doobie Brothers. Look how they danced around on stage back then. How could such good music become so embarrassing? Fortunately most of us only heard them on FM and 8-Track and never saw their awesome stage performance.

Speaking of performances, this one goes out to Jay Leno, one of the funniest modern comedians who never had to use vulgarity to score a laugh. He’s right up there with Johnny Carson, Jonathan Winters and Bill Cosby. I never met Leno, but some friends did.  Each said essentially the  same thing: “Jay’s an honest nice guy, and he’s funny as hell.” That’s how I want to be remembered when I’m gone.  Leno’s still alive.

Sorry, but I can’t bring myself to post any of the more recent poor quality sucky sounding live versions of “Sweet Melissa.” God bless you, Jay, and thanks for all the entertainment.

Have a great weekend, folks.

Oh yeah, and we added a category entitled “Dance Hard.” Cool stuff there.

Saturday Matinee: Ray White, Priscilla Ahn & Tom Waits

Talking Feet: 6-1/2 minutes of awesome. Watch the whole thing [via].

Priscilla Ahn‘s got a cool version of Tom Waits‘ “I Don’t Wanna Grow Up.”

Tom Waits was indicted [sic] into The Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame in 2011, and Neil Young introduced him. Great intro, great clips, great quotes. Someone said that Waits doesn’t sing the same song the same way twice.

“I think what I try to do is write adventure songs and Halloween Music.” –Tom Waits

That last quote cracks me up, because back when we still had trick-or-treaters coming around, we’d do up the front entry and blast Mickey Hart’s “Planet Drum” and Wait’s “Bone Machine” to the neighborhood. Great Halloween music.

Have  a great weekend, see you back here tomorrow.

[First and Third found here and here.]

The middle one was my own experiment with MS Paint. Doodle, click, save, repeat x 86, then plug it into JASC and see what happens. Note that it was all done by right-hand mouse-clicks, even though I’m a southpaw. It doesn’t happen often, but sometimes I’m just entirely too bitchin’ for words.
