Saturday Matinee – Vkgoeswild, The Radios & La Mississippi

Award winning Ukranian pianist and instructor Viktoriya Yermolyeva, aka Vkgoeswild covers The Ramones’ classic. She’s written piano arrangements for many other rock/metal hits that she performs in live concerts and on her Youtube channel.

Japanese psychobilly trio The Radios has been playing rock and roll for three decades, and no, I can’t explain the hunchback zombie monkey bass slapper.

The Mississippi Blues Band formed in Buenos Aires in 1989. Renamed La Mississippi, they released their debut recording, Mbugi in 1993.

Saturday Matinee – Bill McClintock / Isleyhead, The Sugaray Rayford Band & The Scott Henderson Trio (+1)

Texas born Caron “Sugaray” Rayford grew up in starvation-level poverty. His mother struggled to raise three boys alone while battling cancer; when she died, the siblings were relieved. “She suffered and we suffered. Then, we moved in with my grandmother and our lives were a lot better. We ate every day and we were in church every day, which I loved. I grew up in gospel and soul.”

Speed jammin’ blues rock from Scott Henderson on guitar, Kirk Covington / drums, John Humphrey / bass, and Pat O’Brien  / harmonica.

Amazing how much news can fit into one week and my neck is stiff from the whip arounds. Looks like we’re do for some quality patio time tomorrow. See you there.

One Way Out, Elmore James (1960) James recorded the song in 1960 but it wasn’t released until 1965, two years after his death; Sonny Boy Williamson II covered it in 1961 (released in 1962);  in 1965 G. L. Crockett reworked it and recorded It’s A Man Down There. There have been many covers since, with The Allman Bros. Band‘s 1971 version being the best known.

Saturday Matinee – Salut Salon, Trix ‘O’ Treat & 1000mods

Antonio Vivaldi’s “Sommer” wird zum Schauplatz eines musikalischen Wettkampfs. Salut Salon fechten ihn akrobatisch aus, und mit viel Humor – ein Klassiker des Hamburger Quartetts. Ein Konzertmitschnitt aus dem Film “Salut Salon. Der Film” von Regisseur Ralf Pleger.

Bangkok’s Trix ‘O’ Treat has a cool mix of retro flavors with a bit of punk thrown in, and Billy Move is now my favorite song so far today. [Nice shirt at 1:09].

Wikipedia describes 1000mods  as “a stoner metal band from Chiliomodi, Greece, formed in 2006. [..] The name of the group is a pun linked to the village in which they were formed, as ‘a thousand’ is pronounced ‘chillia’ in Greek.”

Saturday Matinee – Fool-Pitying Life Lessons, Fruit Sounds, The Beat Farmers & The HU Band

Fruit noises [via]. It’s what my insides sound like at 3AM after eating the good stuff at 6PM.

The Beat Farmers was one helluva fun bar band, and “Blue Chevrolet” was one of my favorite roadtrip songs. I don’t recobanize the lineup except for the Jerry Raney lookalike on vocals and rhythm guitar, and it appears to be a tribute concert at the Belly Up Tavern in 2013. The legendary Country Dick Montana passed away in 1995 while playing drums on “The Girl I Almost Married.”

This one’s for you, and so is the next one.

Mongolian folk metal blues band The HU is badass killer. Nope. Not gonna mess with them at all [via].

Saturday Matinee – Bébé Chouette, TrollfesT & Irma

“What the hell is dat?” Owls spot camera [via].

TrollfesT is a Norwegian folk metal band (according to Wiki) who want to party in Cabana, and “Solskinnsmedisin” translates to “Sunshine Medical” according to Mr. Google. Where the hell is Norwegia? Bunkarina’s boyfriend thought I might like it, and I did. If that was a bit much, here’s something a bit lighter.

Irma Pany is a singer-songwriter from Cameroon. “Save Me” is kinda catchy, and the video is kinda interesting [via].
