Saturday Matinee – Billy Strings, Webb Wilder, Tyler Bryant & the Shakedown

Tyler Bryant & the Shakedown cranks some blues rock that ain’t watered down at all. Bryant is married to Rebecca Lovell of Larkin Poe.

Saturday Matinee – The Kiffness w/ The Joy, Buddy Guy w/ Chris Duarte & 国本武春, and Kid Ramos w/ The Memphis Kings

David Scott, aka The Kiffness, an artist from South Africa, is known for his collabs with interesting people and animals from around the world. The Joy (singing Isencane Lengane) is an a capella group also from South Africa.

Buddy Guy with Chris Duarte and 国本武春, Takeharu Kunimoto, a prominent Japanese ‘shamisen’ player on a Japanese Game Show, 1995.

Saturday Matinee – Cooder, Mahal & Cooder, Duane Eddy & La Mississippi

Ry Cooder and Taj Mahal, with Joachim Cooder on drums, from Get On Board, a tribute to Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee. Great country blues.

Mancini’s classic by the Titan of Twang himself, Duane Eddy.

The Mississippi Blues Band formed in Buenos Aires in 1989. Renamed La Mississippi, they released their debut recording, Mbugi in 1993.

Aaron Moloney‘s Toast (2017) won an RTÉ 60 Second Short Award.

Markus Proske‘s 4-string electric cigar box guitar.

Lollypop Lorry covered the Wailers’ / Skatalites’ 1964 hit Simmer Down in style – wait for the trumpet solo. Not bad for a ska band from Russia.

Saturday Matinee – Bobby Banas, Booker T. & the M.G.s, Zontar Venus, and MonoNeon w/ Davey Nathan,

He was 30 years old when he ripped up The Judy Garland Show in 1964. From the Utoobage comments:
“The ‘Best Boy Dancer’ happened to be the choreographer for this dance. His name is Bobby Banas. He also played Joyboy in Westside story.”
I’d say the girl did a bang up job but she got no credit.

Saturday Matinee – The Dixie Hummingbirds, A1 Hundo & The Brothers Comatose

The Dixie Hummingbirds on Jubilee Showcase in 1964. James Walker on lead vocals. Formed in 1928, and with changing lineups, they have performed for over 90 years.

A1 Hundo resurrects the grooves of Booker T. & The MG’s. Hard to find anything about the band.

The Brothers Comatose did a happy doomsday song.

Saturday Matinee – Little Charlie & The Nightcats, Justin Johnson & Altered Five Blues Band

Little Charlie & The Nightcats featured Rick Estrin on harp.

Justin Johnson cranked it up, floored it and blew the doors off. One of the greatest slide players around.

Altered Five Blues Band powers it up and flips the switch.
