Carminative Hot Links

Drop That Sack, Papa Charlie Jackson (1925) Papa Charlie Jackson (1887-1938) provided a bridge between ragtime and blues, and has the distinction of being one of the creators of “Hokum” – songs filled with sexual euphemisms and innuendo (Drop That Sack is one). Among his 66 recordings are several in which he accompanied classic female blues singers, such as Ma Rainey, Ida Cox and Hattie McDaniel (yes, THAT Hattie McDaniel).

Tribes

“World’s last tribes: Shock pics show people in danger of EXTINCTION.”

The title is misleading. No, those aren’t “shock pics,” and those people aren’t “in danger of extinction.” Their cultures are, and it’s happened for millennia.

Casa De La Tortuga, aka Мэлхий зоогийн газар

I searched for the location, and it turns out to be in the Gobi Desert in Monglolia. A Reddit commenter added this:

“Its not a house, but a restaurant by the Flaming Cliffs/Dinosaur fossil site in the Gobi Desert in Mongolia. It’s not as big as it looks, and this pic is quite old. It’s a bit dilapidated now. 44°10’31.54″N 103°41’49.39″E

A Nice Country Village by the Sea

zoom-out

Some day, when my kids are grown and on their own, and I’m looking for a place to retire with the lovely and gracious Mrs. Strutts,  I’d like a nice country village in a temperate climate, maybe near the ocean.  A place to let the world pass by without traffic, without paved roads, without telemarketers.

tristan_da_cunha4A place I could do whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted;  stay up late and sleep in as long as I liked.  And blog via satellite.

Maybe set up a little bed and breakfast stop for tourists and travellers, with a wine and cheese shop with tacky homemade postcards and hand-screened purple t-shirts. Maybe a place like this.  Or not. Click here, or click the top image, then zoom out.
