Just Another Day

So there I was, filling up the tank with paraffin, and I spotted a javalina hog. Great. Now I gotta go home dig a pit, build a fire and find some box springs. On the plus side, we won’t have to go to the butcher shop until November 2nd.

While websurfing today, I found another of Raincoaster’s blogs (how many do you have, rain?) Here’s a screenshot:

Now that by itself may not impress you, but lookee here:

Yep, CafePress is advertising with Bunk designs from here and here. Made my day!

Shredding Hot Links

[Important announcement: The wiener of the runoff competition is Planetross by almost a 2:1 margarine. Thanks to all of you for tolerating the behind the scenes flamewars between Planetross and Wheels. They’re both good peeps, but when you toss a free sweatshirt into a crowd there’s likely to be some blood involved.

Thanks also to the folks at CafePress for donating THE COVETED PRIZE. So here’s another plug:

Infinite comic strip by Jim Woodring with video here.

Did you know that dogs were the first domesticated animals? I didn’t, and Archaeology Magazine examines the hows, whys, wheres and whens.

Inside a tornado (video).

Revolver Maps is a cool widget, spotted at Plate O’ Fish. Unfortunately it doesn’t work on WorpDress for some reason, so we added a button at upper right above the blog counter instead.

Although the story is likely fabricated, this one from 2004 is still funny. On the other hand, This Diary is likely true.

Saturday Matinee – Giant Isopods, Claymation, The Swamp, Jolly Boys, Lady Day & Satchmo

Giant Isopods! Yay! [via]

Sure, it’s amateur Claymation, but it kept my attention for the pure and simple oddness of it all.

Talking Heads were one of the premier punk bands out of CBGB’s, even though the punk genre (gawd I hate that word “genre”) was coopted by others who trashed it and gave it a bad name in the late 70s.

The Jolly Boys sing Amy Winehouse’ “Rehab” [via]. I gotta find out more about these guys.

Let’s see. Got four videos up, and since five is ideal for subliminal reasons, let’s roll one more for the road.

Awesome combination of Lady Day and Satchmo.  Have a great weekend, folks, and we’ll be back tomorrow.

Lotsa cool electron microscope images with color enhancement found here. Don’t miss the human tongue bacteria to see what’s tasting YOU.

Headplants

I don’t know if this is a ritual, a protest, if they’re being punished for something, or it’s a new crop of tech support.

Well looky what the google found. From here:

JAKARTA: Six residents of Cempaka Putih, Central Jakarta, buried themselves up to their shoulders on Monday in protest of a government plan to evict them from their homes.

The residents buried themselves 1.2 meters deep in the ground.

Salman, 52, one of the residents, said he had been left with no other option to defend his land.

“It is a fight for my children and grandchildren,” he said.

Salman and other residents said they had been living in the area for more than 57 years. The government recently announced a plan to build an office for the religious court on the land.

Two people fainted during the protest, which lasted an hour, Tempointeraktif.com reported.
