Saturday Matinee – Red Skelton, George Thorogood, Chuck Berry (with Keith Richards & Linda Ronstadt) & Postmodern Jukebox

Saturday, 21 January 2017

The late comedian Red Skelton‘s greatest soliloquy is as relevant today as it ever was.

George Thorogood‘s excellent cover of the Hank Williams classic seems appropriate.

From the 1987 rockumentary “Hail, Hail! Rock ‘n’ Roll” on Chuck Berry‘s 60th birthday concerts. If I recall, the video has some amusing footage featuring Berry schooling Keith Richards on playing Berry and telling him to quit messing with the amp settings.

Postmodern Jukebox covers Cage The Elephant. I would have lost a bet on the origins of that song.

Have a great weekend, folks. Every little thing’s gonna be alright.

Saturday Matinee – Litter Bottle Beetles, Alvin Lee, Terry Bean, Keith Richards & James Cotton

Saturday, 9 March 2013

Australian Bottle Beetles [via].

That’s Ten Years After‘s version of the blues standard first recorded by Sonny Boy Williamson. RIP Alvin Lee.

Terry “Harmonica” Bean playing Sonny Boy Williamson’s “Bring It on Home” at the 2012 MS Blues Marathon Expo in Jackson, MS.

From the OMG Dept: Keith Richards and James Cotton performing “Little Red Rooster” during rehearsals for the Hubert Sumlin Benefit concert 2012.

And that’ll do it for another edition of The Saturday Matinee. Have a great weekend.

Saturday Matinee – The Starwars Zone, Keith Richards, Chuck Berry, Johnny Johnson, Silvan Zingg & Johnny Winter

Poor Keith. Just couldn’t follow directions. Johnny Johnson‘s blank stares are great.

Here’s Johnny Johnson’s version of Meade Lux Lewis‘ “Honky Tonk Train Blues.”

Here I was thinking that Pinetop Smith wrote HTTB, and the wiki proved me wrong just in time. Unfortunately there are no videos of Pinetop Smith in action, but Silvan Zingg is awesome. From Switzerland, here’s “Pinetop’s Boogie Woogie.”

Now how to wrap this up…

Yep, Johnny Winter‘s “Mojo Boogie” does it. Have a great weekend, folks and be back here for more fun tomorrow.

And On This Day Awesome Happened.

Saturday Matinee: Eartha Kitt, Sharon & Binky, Willis, Eddie & Keith

Saturday, 27 December 2008

Eartha Kitt (1927-2008).  She was THE Catwoman.

Sharon Jones, live in France, backed by Binky Griptite & the Dap Kings.

Willis “Gator Tail” Jackson cranks it in 1955.

Now for Something Else:

Eddie Cochran recorded this in 1959.  (Six months later he died in a car crash in England that also injured Gene Vincent and the songwriter, Sharon Sheely.)

Keith Richards’ tribute to Cochran.  Richards died of various drug overdoses and alcohol poisonings in 1967, 1970, 1972, 1983 and several other years since.  He’s still touring.
