The End Of The World Mayan Apocalypse December 2012

Mayan Apocalypse December 2012

Since we don’t know in which time zone the catastrophe begins, this may be my last post on Tacky Raccoons; otherwise, we’ll see you on Friday as usual.

[Concept unashamedly snatched from here. Somewhat appropriate apocalyptic music from Skeeter Davis here.]

Another Great Gift Idea – 28 Switches

This illuminating piece was created by an artist and former colleague of mine, Kiel Mutschelknaus. ‘It is a lamp with 28 switches. In order to turn the lamp ON, you need to switch all 28 toggle switches to the on position. And, logically, to turn the lamp off, ALL the switches need to be turned to the off position.

Very cool. Now wire them up to a rheostat so that the lamp may be dimmed, switch-by-switch. Dare you.  [Found here, via here.]

Hex Globe

Looks a bit like a 6-sided Flatland to me, but I want to visit Owl World.

B&W Makeup

Alexander Khokhlov is a Russian photographer who loves to use the human face as his canvas for creating graphic, black and white face painting with makeup. From the WiFi icon to the pop icon Mickey Mouse or a QRcode across his model’s faces, Khokhlov’s project is quite interesting. Rather than relying on canvas, paper, or any other synthetic material, Khokhlov relies on the beauty and lines of the feminine face to form this project, entitled Weird Beauty.

“Hi Gramma! I Made You a Lamp!”

“Gramma, I know that you and Grampa escaped the old country without shoes, but capitalism is evil, so I made you a lamp to show you how wrong you were to leave.” –Overheard at Zuccotti Park September 2012.

The .Gif Friday Post No.242 – CYRIAK

We’ve been posting Cyriak Harris‘ odd .gif animations occasionally for years without knowing that he was the original source. I never connected them with the videos that Bunkarina turned me onto (like “Cows and Cows and Cows“). The guy is brilliantly talented and one of the most entertaining animation artists I’ve seen since Terry Gilliam.

All three .gifs from Cyriak’s jawdropping website: here, here and here.

Strainer Face

He’s got a mind like a sieve.
