Tacky Raccoons’ 10th Year – The Top 11 Posts

Thursday, 3 August 2017

Tacky Raccoons Be Crawlin' 300
On Friday, 3 August 2007, the date of our first posted post that was posted, the world twitched imperceptibly, a global nanoflinch, an earthquake with the power of a morning fart, or less. It’s not our 10th Anniversary, because Day One doesn’t count, but Day 366 does, so this is really a Birthday Celebration. It goes like this:

3 August 2007 – Whelped
3 August 2008 – 1st year Blogaversary
3 August 2017 – 9th year Blogaversary

On the other hand, there are now 3,981 posts in our archives.

TEN YEARS OF STUFF!

Steal, lift, purloin, burgle and abscond with anything you find here, just link back and give us credit for the source.

As with previous years, we’ve celebrated those posts that received the largest number of hits, not only for the past year, but for the entire life of Tacky Raccoons, and this year is no different.

We’ve featured the Top 11 Posts every year since 3 August 2008 and this year is no different. There are some surprises, and I still don’t know why some get an exorbitant amount of hits while others fade.

Previous Top 11 hits are linked here.

Earlier years’ decisions hold for these posts:

10/10/10 10:10:10 and 10:11:10 11/10/11 are hereby relegated to the sub-category of Inexplicable Honorable Mentions.

The numbers adjacent to the titles below indicate ranking for the previous 12 months, followed by the previous year’s ranking, and the third numeral is for all-time popularity (August 2007 – August 2017). “NR” indicates Not Ranked.

Tacky Raccoons’ 9th Year: The Top 11 Posts

Wednesday, 3 August 2016

Tacky Raccoons Be Crawlin' 300

We’ve featured the Top 11 Posts every year since this blog was whelped on 3 August 2007 and this year is no different. There are some surprises, as some posts that fell off the radar years ago have risen again in odd popularity, and I still don’t know why some get an exorbitant amount of hits while others fade.

Previous Top 11 hits are linked here.

We dropped two ranking posts from The List this year. Both had to do with unusual date/time convergence singularities, and other than that had little long-term content that would interest the average viewer to deserve inclusion.

10/10/10 10:10:10 and 10:11:10 11/10/11 are hereby relegated to the sub-category of Inexplicable Honorable Mentions.

The numbers adjacent to the titles below indicate ranking for the previous 12 months, followed by the previous year’s ranking, and the third numeral is for all-time popularity (August 2007 – August 2016). “NR” indicates Not Ranked.

MEET THE BEETLES

Meet The Beetles 0.1

“Meet The Beetles” was a dark horse with a score of 1/10/31. Posted in July of 2011, it was running second to Bosley The Ferret for most of this year, but in the past couple of weeks it jumped into the lead, surpassing Bosley by only a few hundred hits. (I never thought that post would be much of an attention getter by itself, so I collected them all and created a .gif animation. It’s floating around No.77.)

Thanks for all your visits, favorites and links, and I wish you all the best.

LOL FERRET: EPISODE 1

Although Bosley the Ferret passed away years ago, he still produces smiles. First posted on 8 November 2007, Bosley has staying power with a score of 1/2/2 and over 44,580 hits, despite the fact that I didn’t know there was an established protocol for posting “Lol” memes at the time (hence the font and non-meme-correct “LolSpeak”).

Thanks for all your visits and favorites, and I wish you all the best,

1,292 Posts = 3rd Year Blogoversary!

Tuesday, 3 August 2010

Wow. Didn’t think we’d still be around this long. Mostly, we didn’t think at all, just got up did it, starting on 3 August 2007, and we’ve since passed 671,000 views!

The year certainly had its highlights. We had our busiest day, 18 October 2009, with over 20,500 hits. I was invited to post on both AmyOops and The Blogmocracy. Amy’s site is kind of a cornocopia of oddness, and The Blogmocracy is more about current events where I provide innocuous fodder for the Overnight Open Thread. It’s all a lot of fun.

We opened up The Tacky Raccoons Store for TR paraphernalia. Our new FaceBook page was hacked and deleted, but it’ll be up again soon. Thanks to all who logged in.

This post is a retrospective of our past year, listing the Top 10 greatest hits of Tacky Raccoons from August 2009 to August 2010. Previous years’ greatest hits are here and here.

So here are the Top 10 of the past twelve months, with last year’s rankings separated by an appropriate slash. NR = no rating,  indicating that the post either didn’t make rank or wasn’t posted last year. Click on the images to see the original posts.

Hey Ho! Let’s go!

No. 9/NR: The .Gif Friday Post No. 129 – Compound Pendulum, Nematode, Cat Slide

No. 4/1: Lol Ferret Episode 1
[This was the 2nd most popular post since this blog done be borned, with over 30,6oo hits since 8 November 2007.]

No. 3/3: Giant Woolly Bear Caterpillar Discovered Near Las Cruces, NM, Predicts Global Warming for Decades to Come

AND THE NUMBER ONE POST OF THE YEAR IS:

No. 1/NR: An Expensive Ignosecond

Blogoversary II: Our 2nd Year’s Top 10

Sunday, 2 August 2009

cactus-sign-tacky-raccoon

Whoa. Two freakin’ years (not counting the undercover ghost-posting stalking decades) and y’all are still with us, doin’ the Number 6,  a-ridin’ into town a-whompin’ an’ a whumpin’.

Our first post was on Friday, 3 August 2007, but since we don’t wanna interrupt your Monday work schedule with all the hoopla, we turned back the calendar by a day.  We also know, since we track the stats, that most of y’all check in here during your working hours anyway.  Believe it or not, our statistics have a pulse. You have no excuse for not clicking through all 11 links below, because it’s still the weekend.

Tacky Raccon2..1Many people have asked us about our now world famous TR logo.  Once we’d decided on a blogname, we realized that we needed a mascot, so I doodled a raccoon that had just realized he’d blundered through a puddle of rubber cement. That was it. One shot. On a scrap of notebook paper. Serious history.

There are a lot of reasons why I like posting inanities on this blog, but I can’t think of any right now. All I know is it keeps me from oiling the chainsaw and putting the dishes away. Mostly I enjoy the camaraderie  of my fellow blogheads and the opportunity to crosspost trash talk with relative impunity. Above all, comments from near and far keep me sitting here and avoiding “Dancing With The Stars” reruns.

So here are the greatest traffic producers of the past year, with the previous year’s ranking separated by an appropriate slash.
NR = no rating,  indicating that the post either didn’t make rank or wasn’t posted last year.

My personal favorite for this year, Popeye’s Obituary, didn’t rank, but it’s barely a monthski old.  A simple click on any image below will take you to the realm of the original coolness.

SO HERE WE GO:

No. 10/1  – Another Great Christmas Gift Idea
