Hurricane Jj Thames backed by The Luca Giordano Band at the Cafe’ De Amer in Amen, Netherlands November 2023. In 2005 Giordano left Italy for Chicago, made a name for himself backing various blues greats, and eventually returned to Europe where his trio spreads the word.
Jj Thames is nothing but amazing. Born in Motown, moved to the Delta, and has an impressive style (and resume). Apparently she had a rough time in the music business and announced her retirement in 2020.

San Diego based Dirty Sweet is/was a roots rock blues band who took their name from a lyric in T.Rex’ Bang A Gong.

A lot of disturbing history happened this week and it ain’t over yet. Interesting times indeed. I’ll be on the porch by the time I get out there. See you then.

“Stalecracker” (aka Justin Chiasson) is a Tiktok legend who cook him up da cajun food, dood. He’s also a Louisiana State Trooper.

Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band is always entertaining (despite the shaky video).

Shaye Cohn, cornetist and director of New Orleans based jazz band Tuba Skinny, joins her dad Joe Cohn (guitar), Zaid Nasser (alto sax) and Rob Adkins (bass).

Eliza Stark & the Dappers – The first and only rockabilly band based in Montenegro.

The Marcus King Band  hails from Greenville, South Carolina. A fourth-generation musician, Marcus King started learning guitar at age three or four and has played professionally since he was 11.

Saturday Matinee – Biscuits & Gravy Revew, Olena Uutai, Reverend Peyton & The Terraplanes Blues Band

Born in Yakutia, Russia, Olena Uutai (Olga Podluzhnaya Uutai) pulls unearthly sounds from a  khomus, a type of jaw harp once played by tribal shamans of the far east. [h/t Pam M.]

Reverend Peyton got hold of a groovebox in 2018.

The Terraplanes Blues Band shows us yanks how to play Delta Blues.

Saturday Matinee – Tony Joe White, Jane Rose, Rev. Peyton’s Big Damn Band & RelaxTrio

BTW, that’s “poke sallet” for you city slickers. Poke is poisonous, and I remember it being called “hillbilly acid.” Young pokeweed is edible when cooked, but no U.S. food organization endorses the consumption of pokeweed regardless of how it is prepared, and the berries can kill you. It’s a lanky odd-looking weed with purple stems, grows to +6 feet.

“Sallet” is of French origin and refers to a mess of greens (including spinach, mustard greens, etc.) cooked until tender.

Jane Rose is nasty. I love it.

Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band is worth a listen. Country gospel rock is always good for the soul.

Finnish band RelaxTrio kicks psycho billy to a new level of psycho billy, whatever that means, but that girl pounds bass.

Saturday Matinee – Roy Clark with Buck Trent, The Bros. Landreth & The Reverend Peyton

Roy Clark played a hayseed on the long-running show HeeHaw. He had some serious chops on both guitar and banjo, and Buck Trent was no slouch either. Ignore the title of the vid and the mugging and be amazed.

The Bros. Landreth cranked some serous swamp rock with “Runaway Train” recorded 9 February 2015. Every country band should have a song about a runaway train in my opinion.

“We researched these dangerous Hollywood-style stunts and my best friend Jim Connor volunteered to let me set him on fire inside my house.” –Rev. Peyton.

I don’t like the title of this YouTube video at all because mocking young naïve idealistic Marxists is not a good way to explain basic economic principles and move them toward a rational frame of thought. On the other hand, this video illustrates the patience, sentience, and simple brilliance of the late Milton Friedman.
