Saturday Matinee – Colin Bowden, BeauSoleil, Ida Mae, Ike & Tina Turner

“I LOVE the slushy groove of 85 year old Colin Bowden, who lays down Dixieland drumming like no other!”

Ida Mae is husband/wife team Christopher and Stephanie Jean Turpin, roots rock musicians from Norfolk, UK, who met after joining a soul band while attending Bath Spa University. Now they’re recording in Nashville Tennessee.

Don’t try your love on sexy Ida… She not only wants your love, she wants your life after that. Don’t do it.

Hope all y’all in Ida’s path have either bugged out by now or are at least hunkered down in a safe place. She ain’t worth the risk just for bragging rights.

While I was stuck in traffic yesterday, Seb Gorka went to a commercial break, so I flipped to an AM oldies station and heard this:

I don’t think I’ve heard that song since high school.

“The Midnight Special” was hosted by one of the greatest west coast DJs ever, Wolfman Jack. So where do we go from there? SOUTH!

Saturday Matinee – Captain Beefheart, BeauSoleil & George Thorogood

Complete Captain Beefheart concert, possibly in Toronto 1974 [via]. I saw CB and his Magic Band live in the early 80s at The [famous but now defunct] Golden Bear in Huntington Beach California. Bizarre tribal rhythmical poetry during his “Bat Chain Puller” tour.

BeauSoleil undated and completely awesome.

George Thorogood‘s vid from 1982 included cameos by pool sharp Wiilie Mosconi and the late great Bo Diddley.

Saturday Matinee – Bath Cruise, Justin Wilson’s Gumbo, Mulates, Freddie King & Gatemouth Brown, T-Bone Walker

High speed camera cruise through the Bath England train station [via Miss Cellanea].

The late Justin Wilson was a national treasure, I gar-on-tee. I got ticked off today at a restaurant in Santa Barbara called “The Cajun Kitchen.” I ordered red beans and rice, and got a plateful of pinto bean mud on ricepaste with cornbread. No class.
