R.I.P. Andrew Breitbart

“Bunk! Andrew Breitbart’s on the phone!”

I had the pleasure of talking with Andrew on the phone a few times last summer. Good guy who is already missed.

Nice tribute from Iowahawk here.

Robert Stacy McCain has a good send off, as does longtime friend Michael Walsh.

Patterico‘s got one, too.

Andrew Breitbart exposed and publicized so much hypocrisy, egregious fraud, blatant governmental/bureaucratic corruption and malfeasance that one would think that he’d be a hero to all, regardless of one’s political affiliation, JUST FOR DOING THE RIGHT THING.

That he’s not recognized for those contributions by all is a travesty.

Here’s classic Breitbart at CPAC 10 February 2012.

In October 2011, Andrew Breitbart called into a podcast aired by The Blogmocracy to talk about Charles Johnson. (Johnson was a once prominent blogger who decided to turn on many of his former friends and allies, Breitbart being one of them.) Here is a brief of what went down:

Everything leading up to that interview was pure awesome. Once The Boiler Room Crew had the archives of ALL of Charles Johnson’s comments on LGF, on a whim I emailed Breitbart to see if he was interested in them. He emailed back within minutes. “Call me.”

So I did. I told him about DoD and what the BRC had done, and he was laughing. A couple of phone calls and emails later, I mentioned the upcoming Blogmocracy Radio podcast and asked him if he’d like to call in to talk about CJ or anything else. He was interested.

The day of the show was nerve wracking. We couldn’t announce the “Special Guest” ahead of time without confirmation, so I emailed him just in case he’d changed his mind.

He responded with two words: “I’m in.”

At that point we went into promo mode, but we still couldn’t say who the “Guest” was going to be – we didn’t want the lizards clogging up the BlogMockRadio switchboard and giving m a bunch of crap.

If you listen to the first few minutes of the show [full unedited archive here] you can tell that Savage and Rodan were nervous, not knowing if and when Andrew would call in. Once he did, it was a blast.

Thanks Andrew.

Saturday Matinee – A Personal Protest, Miniatur Wunderland, Girl In A Coma, Bill Deal & The Rhondels

For years Tacky Raccoons has posted a small collection of Utoobage videos every weekend just for fun, entitled “The Saturday Matinee.” The videos posted are those that amuse us, and often include oddities and obscure musical relics from the past. Innocuous stuff, for sure.

We like to post ahead of time, so we linked and gave hoops to the delightful and fetching Miss Cellanea for this and this, thinking that the vids she turned up would be entertaining for folks of all ages, good manners and proper posture, i.e., those who peruse Tacky Raccoons. However, if you click on the links to those videos, you’ll see something like this:

Here are the screencaps of two vids we intended to post that have since been squelched by the Great Squelchers of the YouTube:

If anyone reading this blog is offended by the destruction of washing machines or the herding habits of sheep, DO NOT CLICK HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, or especially HERE, and DO NOT enjoy the videos posted below the double-line of death.

Yeah, so I went all caps. The YouTubers are out of line on this and they can bite me. Pass it on.

Update: Miss C has the story and forwarded new links.

Oh wow, I had no idea those were pulled! Luckily, I found replacements. Thanks for the heads up!

The guy who originally did the washing machine video was pissed that someone who copied him went viral, so that’s why that one was pulled. When I heard about it, I replaced the video at Neatorama, but neglected to update the one at Miss Cellania. The original video is here. http://youtu.be/6_PLnInsh7E

Now the sheep one is completely confuzzling. Harmful activities? That phrase isn’t even on the YouTube community guidelines page! But it’s probably a case of someone (or some group) flagging the particular copy that went viral. There are plenty of other copies. Like this one. http://youtu.be/pysET6UvN60

Official 2012 video [via]. It’s MUCH more intricate than what was shown in the  original advert. Pure awesome.

Girl In A Coma plays GoGos plays Ramones plays Ritchie Valens.

Bill Deal &The Rhondels. R&B rock steady and clogging makes for a great ending to the Saturday Matinee. Have a great weekend, see you here tomorrow.

STOP SOPA / PIPA

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Just think.

If the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) were to pass, this post could cause Tacky Raccoons to be taken down with a single complaint.

The complaint could be made by one of the pet owners, the person who created any one of the images, the company that printed the calendars where the images were featured, any website that sold those calendars, and any individual claiming ownership of the pictures, whether the claims were legit or not.

Every website that posted any image could be accused and shut down, whether guilty of copyright infringement or not. Google itself could be in violation, because they linked to the images where we lifted them, which is aiding and abetting.

The U.S. Government has been trying to figure out ways to control the internest for a long time, especially for taxation purposes, but this latest power grab (by a bipartisan commission!) is beyond insidious. James Watt takes it a step further:

SOPA/PIPA is not the way of free speech, nor is it going to help the exchange of ideas. It will hurt science just as much as any other venue to protect a few media conglomerates. SOPA and PIPA is a real danger to all of us who frequent websites such as this one. Imagine if you will, we are discussing the new HadCRUT4 using station data – a complaint is lodged by UEA/CRU to the SOPA/PIPA entity over some portion of that dataset they consider “proprietary” or protected by one of the non disclosure agreements they claim to have with some countries. One complaint is all it would take to shut WUWT, Climate Audit, and other websites using this data for discussion down- without any hearing or trial. Basically, “fair use” gets tossed down the hole. Science loses.

Freedom of Speech is one of the unalienable rights of citizens of this great country. Let’s make sure it’s never taken away, because we’ll never get it back.

AGW – Stop Global Warming In 9 Easy Steps

  1. Get rid of your gas-guzzling internal combustion vehicle.
  2. Get a wheelbarrow, install a platform with seats and a roof.
  3. Hire a peasant to take you where you want to go.
  4. Take smug pride in your efforts to save the world from Global Warming and brag about it to your friends.
  5. Bitch to your friends about having to pay the peasant.
  6. Fire the peasant and sell the wheelbarrow.
  7. Buy a car and offer the peasant transportation for a small fee.
  8. You are now an entrepreneur. Enjoy.
  9. Get rid of your gas-guzzling internal combustion vehicle.

Weather Forecast For The New Year

[Found here.]
I’m a pessimistic optimist, in that I expect the worst, and if the worst doesn’t come to pass, it’s gravy. This new year has the potential to be just as bad economically as 2011, but I have hope.

Trouble is, hope don’t feed the bulldog, so we’re forced to hunker down until the storm passes. There’s a small patch of blue sky on the economic horizon that suggests the worst may be over. Don’t bet on it clearing until after November when the political pendulum begins its slow return to normalcy, providing plenty of gravy and mixed metaphors for all.

#OCCUPOOPAGE

The original 25 images came from a google search for “butthead,” which is my honest opinion of the OccuPoopage. What a waste of, um, you know, ah, nevermind.

(Copy and paste everywhere and anywhere you see fit.)

LOL City, Drudge

Cropped, but otherwise unadulterated screencap of today’s Drudge Report made me smile.

Apparently, some of the “Occupy X” morons believe all U.S. Citizens who earn more than minimum wage deserve this.

My favorite brain-dead brilliance so far is this awesome interview, with this being a close second.

[P.S. Kudos to Urban Infidel for her photojournalistic ventures into the dark underbelly of OWS, and for her interview on Roger Hedgecock’s show on AM600KOGO. If anyone still thinks there’s cherry-picking going on, Zombie’s got more.]
