The Leaning Tower of Britten

Brilliant.

Ralph Britten purchased a water tower from the nearby town of Lefors, Texas, transported it to Groom. The tower was intended to supply Britten’s remote truck stop /restaurant and tourist information center with water, but he found a cheaper supply and installed the empty tower as an advertisement on Route 66.

Britten’s business burned to the ground, but his water tower still stands.

Driftwood Charlie’s Contribution To The World

In 1947 the doctors said that Charles Kasling had only a short time to live unless he moved to a hot, dry climate. First he moved to the Death Valley area, and in 1960 he left for Yuma, Arizona, where Driftwood Charley’s World of Lost Art was created.”

Social Security records indicate Charles Kasling was born July 10, 1901 and passed away in March of 1985, a testament to desert living.

Unfortunately most of his artwork has been destroyed by vandalism and the elements.

Yeah, that stuff is stuff, but this stuff is better.

She was only 10 years old when that photo was taken, 13 when it was hand-tinted. She was a professional postcard model known as Mary,  Jane, or Semolina. Not sure of any of this, but the pic is cool.
