The Most Effectual Method of Recovering a Drowned Person

The Most Effectual Method of Recovering a Drowned Person, a print made by John Fougeron, satirising the French technique, 1747

In the 1730s, René Antoine Ferchault de Réaumur popularized a recent discovery: the seemingly lifeless could be revived with a wealth of strategies. This “Pliny of the Eighteenth Century” (Réaumur invented a precursor to the Celsius scale, influenced methods of silk production in China, and pioneered the process of metallic tinning still used today) wrote a pamphlet titled Avis pour donner du secours à ceux que l’on croit noyez (Advice to aid those believed drowned).

After debating the pros and cons of tickling the nose with feathers and filling a drowning man’s mouth with warm urine, Réaumur reveals what he believes to be the best technique: using a pipe stem to blow stimulating tobacco smoke into the intestines through the rectum. Louis XV found the pamphlet dazzling and encouraged its wide distribution. Startlingly, as Anton Serdeczny discusses in his recent book on reanimation, soon riverbanks across Europe were lined with “resuscitation kits”, as close-by as a contemporary defibrillator, which contained all the necessary supplies for giving a nicotine enema (and later, thankfully, included bellows as a substitute for breath).

Radiology Pron

These radiology techs were obviously having some break-time fun, but I think the xrays are of a woman not pictured.

Seven too many clowns at this party.

On 26 July 2017 the US Senate voted to keep ObamaCare in effect forever.

On Wednesday, 26 July 2017, all 48 Democrats plus 7 Republicans in the Senate voted to destroy the most efficient and successful private healthcare system in the world.

Nice move, idiots.

Every totalitarian government in modern history that nationalized medical care for their constituents did it for reasons having nothing to do with medical care or economics, and everything to do with purging the population that remembers oppression and the obvious causes.

ObamaCare is no different.

Welcome to fascism, folks. They’re gonna shove it down our throats despite majority public opinion to the contrary.

Cephalopod Gas Passing

There’s a happy patient. One squeeze and she’s happy; two squeezes  and she’s dancing on the table; three squeezes and she’s prepared to serve in congress.

With Practice, You Too Can Administer Popular Posterior Vaccinations In Your Spare Time.

Yep. That’s  a simulated buttcheek for hypodermic needle training practice, and it tells you if you’ve done it right. That’s right, THIS HALF-ASS SPEAKS.

This strap-on simulator is a lifelike model of a right buttock with anatomical landmarks needed for injections. Correctly administered injections produce audiovisual feedback.

Just think how much fun this could be at frat parties, what with the anatomical landmarks and all… give a shot, take a shot. I hope they come up with a left-handed model.

[Found via here. I won’t link directly as the original source has graphic images for other medical training products that are NSFW/NSFK and kinda nasty otherwise.]

In His Own Words

Folks,

We don’t intend to turn this blog into a political forum, but occasionally we feel the need to speak up about government insanity.

Forget the inane Nobel Peace Prize business.  That “prize” was reduced in value to the contents of a full spittoon when the creator of modern terrorism, Yassir Arafat, was awarded it in 1994.

Meanwhile, there is the invented crisis of global warming/climate change, and more recently the supposed crisis of health care reform.

The former has everything to do with confiscatory taxes based upon the absurd irrational premise that natural fluctuations in the average temperature of the earth are caused by humanity. We can discuss that hot/cold topic another time.

The latter has nothing to do with health care, and everything to do with government control of the health care insurance industry. Lookee here:

President Obama admits to the inefficiency of  existing taxpayer-funded government-run healthcare programs: “Medicare and Medical are about to go into the red in a few years.”
