Pretty good rendition of “The Rattlin’ Bog.” It’s a tough song to sing, but I’m partial to the version sung by The Fenians. Saw them sing it live more than once, and Terry Casey never stumbled.
The O’Reillys & The Paddyhats jam it with “Barrels of Whiskey.”
The Rumjacks‘ “An Irish Pub Song” is “a piss take at the explosion of Irish Pubs in Australia and the bastardisation of a culture.”
From the lyrics posted on the Utoobage:
There’s a county map to go on the wall,
A hurling stick & a shinty ball,
The bric, the brac, the craic & all,
Lets call it an Irish pub.
Caffreys, Harp, Kilkenny on tap,
The Guinness pie & that cabbage crap,
The ideal wannabee Paddy trap,
We’ll call it an Irish pub.
You get the idea. On the other hand, my favorite Irish rebel song was a broadside set to music: Nell Flaherty’s Drake. It’s got some of the best snarky curses I’ve ever read. Here’s The Clancy Brothers’ version.
This is kinda fun, too. Good story intro:
“The Night I Punched Russell Crowe.”
Have a great weekend, folks. We’ll be donning some green tomorrow.

Okay, it’s not an asteroid. I made that up. It’s a frog that was sucked into the upper atmosphere by a hurricane, froze solid, then fell from the sky. It reached a high velocity and embedded itself into concrete pavement.

Okay, I made that up, too. It’s a masonry term called “frogging,” but it applies to concrete finishes as well, and is a sign of good luck.

Okay, I made that up. Those may be my pants, but they’re not my shoes.

Okay, they’re not my pants, either.
She entered the zoo enclosure illegally, turned her back on a predator to take a selfie and fortunately survived the attack. The jaguar was held for questioning and released on its own recognizance. Authorities are trying to determine if this was a hate crime as the jaguar is black.

This still makes me grin.

The following is the March 1 Congressional Research Service report, Venezuela: Political Crisis and U.S. Policy. Venezuela’s economy

Circa 1978, NASA engineers wondered how many tampons astronaut Sally Ride would need for a week in space. “Is 100 the right number?” they asked. “No. That would not be the right number,” she replied. [source]

Miz J. emailed, tells me she likes gospel, blues and old country, so here we go.
The Dixie Hummingbirds (1928-present) are a gospel rhythm and blues vocal group who influenced many recording artists. Even Paul Simon covered them.
What’s the greatest blues song ever? That’s a tough choice because the blues spans so many decades. I’m gonna go with this.
T-Bone Walker recorded “Stormy Monday” in 1947, but The Allman Brothers Band did a great cover 33 years later. I’ve always loved that chord turnaround.
(And THIS is one of the prettiest songs they ever recorded.)
Gospel – Check.
Blues – Check.
That leaves “old country.” Well, it’s not that old, but it counts.
Have a great weekend, folks. More stuff tomorrow.
