Woman Attacked For Taking A Selfie In A Zoo.

She entered the zoo enclosure illegally, turned her back on a predator to take a selfie and fortunately survived the attack. The jaguar was held for questioning and released on its own recognizance. Authorities are trying to determine if this was a hate crime as the jaguar is black.

Saturday Matinee – Single-Handed Pure Devotion, The Dixie Hummingbirds, The Allman Brothers & Kris Kristofferson w/ Johnny Cash

https://youtu.be/sKMnvKs_eWY

[via Madam Jujujive]

Miz J. emailed, tells me she likes gospel, blues and old country, so here we go.

The Dixie Hummingbirds (1928-present) are a gospel rhythm and blues vocal group who influenced many recording artists. Even Paul Simon covered them.

What’s the greatest blues song ever? That’s a tough choice because the blues spans so many decades. I’m gonna go with this.

T-Bone Walker recorded “Stormy Monday” in 1947, but The Allman Brothers Band did a great cover 33 years later. I’ve always loved that chord turnaround.

(And THIS is one of the prettiest songs they ever recorded.)

Gospel – Check.
Blues – Check.
That leaves “old country.” Well, it’s not that old, but it counts.

Have a great weekend, folks. More stuff tomorrow.

The Leaning Tower of Britten

Brilliant.

Ralph Britten purchased a water tower from the nearby town of Lefors, Texas, transported it to Groom. The tower was intended to supply Britten’s remote truck stop /restaurant and tourist information center with water, but he found a cheaper supply and installed the empty tower as an advertisement on Route 66.

Britten’s business burned to the ground, but his water tower still stands.
