Highway to Hesse? Bon Goes to Bitburg? The Heimatdamisch is pure Oberkreiner rock.

The Iguanas album Nuevo Boogaloo (1994) had some catchy tunes, this being one of them. The Tex-Mex band from New Orleans has been doing it for decades on vinyl, stage, television and movies.

Saturday Matinee – Christopher Ameruoso, Moccasin Creek & Preacher Jack

Not sure where the bass and drums are hiding in that vid, but the hard rock banjo is pretty awesome.

Moccasin Creek. I remember hanging with a crew like that, and they were fun as hell. We had dogs, but didn’t have a raccoon.

Gotta roll with this one. Drummer doesn’t quite have the soul to back up Preacher Jack, but it’s all good.

Tav Falco is a punkabilly oddity who’s been around for a while.

Rory Block cooks up a big batch o’ Robert Johnson and serves it hot.

If I’m not mistaken, The Tailgators were a spinoff band featuring bassist Keith Ferguson from The Fabulous Thunderbirds back in the 80s, as if it matters. Don Leady rocks.

Saturday Matinee – Tuba Skinny with Erika Lewis, Leon Redbone, Brent Johnson & The Call Up

Tuba Skinny on a hot, steamy New Orleans day, playing James Scott’s “Climax Rag” from 1914. Pay attention to the girl on cornet – she knows exactly how to do it right – and before you assume that the girl on bass drum is only there for eye candy, check this out:

Saturday Matinee: Swamp Edition – Talking Heads, Ry Cooder, The Sensational Alex Harvey Band & Swamp Dogg

Talking Heads‘ classic “Swamp” performed at the London Wembley Arena 1982. It was released the following year, creeped me out, and I became a TH fan.

Ry Cooder‘s swamp-rock cover of Elvis’ “All Shook Up” may have been posted here before but so what – it’s awesome and it fits the theme of this post.

This is the best cover of Jerry Reed‘s “Amos Moses” I’ve ever heard. The Sensational Alex Harvey Band took it and made it nasty. (This 1976 video is from the German TV show Pop Scop.)

Saturday Matinee – Swamp Rock, Ben E. King, Boz & Anson

I love this. Swamp rock with the most bizarre low budget video I’ve run across (found here) and it’s not even Cajun.

The video for The Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band‘s new song Clap Your Hands was shot in one day in a barn in Indiana. All of the dancers, artists, freaks, weirdos, cowboys, kids, donkeys, bunko steerers, chickens, and regular folks, who are all Hoosiers, all volunteered their time and talent because they believed in the song and the band. The video was directed/produced by the acclaimed music video producer Kevin Custer (Lil Wayne, Soldja Boy, Flogging Molly) who remarked the day of the shoot, it would have cost a fortune to get all of these props back in NYC. To which The Rev. Peyton replied, These arent props they are just crap you find in a barn!
