Saturday Matinee – The World’s Largest Laser Gun, Oorutaichi, The Heavy Heavy, and St. Paul & The Broken Bones

Oorutaichi is a “free-form, improvisational electropop artist from Osaka. Inspired by The Doors and The Residents,” he once had a band called Urichipang, and the Utoob description (via Google Translate) doesn’t help much:

What a laid-back groovy groove. The Heavy Heavy is “a reverb-drenched collision of psychedelia and blues, acid rock and sunshine pop” based in Brighton, UK.

Saturday Matinee – Universal Everything, Felix Colgrave, Matt “Guitar” Murphy w/ Memphis Slim & Billy Stepney

Transfiguration (2020) by Universal Everything is a remaster from their 2011 original. UE is a global collective of digital artists, architects and engineers, and there’s some very cool CGI animations in their portfolio.

He was Howlin Wolf’s lead guitarist before Hubert Sumlin came along, and played with Ike Turner, Buddy Guy, Etta James, Chuck Berry, Sonny Boy Williamson, Otis Rush, and of course the Blues Brothers. Underrated player.”

Had some good karma come visit in the past week: doc called and said there’s nothing important to discuss, Gord sent me some cool prints, and my workload has expanded. Then it balanced itself somewhat: a computer crash did some minor damage, and snakes ate my catalytic converter at 3am yesterday. Life happens.

Saturday Matinee – The Drink, The Fly By Night Rounders (w/ The Spoon Lady), Mick Wigfall & The Toxics

“After a little more than 2 months of work here it finally is! ‘The Drink’, a short film that’s 100% CGI. […] I really tried replicating the look of old 60s film photography and the almost dreamy Hollywood feel. I spent a lot of time researching lenses, different characteristics, how old 90s movies where filmed, how traditional film reacts to certain conditions, etc, and I’ve really learnt a lot during this whole process.”

William Landgren is 14 years old.

From the streets of Asheville NC, the Fly By Night Rounders have an interesting bluegrass / country blues style, and The Spoon Lady has a fascinating life story.

Mick Wigfall & the Toxics are a European power trio that most in the U.S. (including me) have never heard of – details at the link – and that’s a very nice 1955 Chevy Bel Air in the vid.
