Saturday Matinee – Steel Shredder, Egg Cracker, Android 207, Tom Waits & Pink Floyd

Saturday, 19 January 2019

Not sure why, but this kind of stuff fascinates me.

Egg-breaking machine complete with egg-breaking porn soundtrack found here.

I ran across Paul Whittington‘s Android 207 a coupla years ago. Seems to fit.

Tom Waits‘ self-accompanied masterpiece “Clang Boom Steam” also seems appropriate.

From the Utoobage description: “The iconic video was created by Gerald Scarfe initially as a backdrop film for when the band [Pink Floyd] played the track on its 1977 In the Flesh tour.”
From the Utoobage comments: “Imagine having to wait 40 years to watch your favorite band’s official videoclip.”

Have a great weekend, folks, and don’t forget that astronomy is gonna happen tomorrow night.

The .Gif Friday Post No.528 – Gauche Proposal, Bot Reaction & Dock Decker

Friday, 23 March 2018

About that 3rd one. At first I thought it was a dog, happy to see his master; then I thought it was a nekked woman happy to see her lover. I was wrong both times. It’s a nekked guy.

Saturday Matinee: Dancebot, Johnny Cash, Howlin’ Wolf & Joe Bonamassa

Saturday, 11 June 2016

Very cool bot moves. Amazing that the people can replicate their own moves, too.

Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley were competitors of sorts during their Sun Studio recording days. Here’s Presley doing Cash.

That’s Howlin’ Wolf in 1966. The song was a reworking of “Hey Lawdy Mama,” written and performed by Buddy Moss in 1934. Wolf’s version was covered by The Fabulous Thunderbirds and re-titled “Runnin’ Shoes.”

How Many More Years” as covered by Joe Bonamassa in a tribute concert in 2015. Pretty impressive lineup, too:

Bonamassa’s touring band, dubbed the “Muddy Wolf Band” [and] includes Anton Fig (drums), Michael Rhodes (bass), Reese Wynans (piano, Hammond organ), Lee Thornburg (trumpet, horn arrangements), Ron Dziubla (saxophone), Nick Lane (trombone), Mike Henderson (harmonica), and Kirk Fletcher (guitar) [via].

Have a great weekend folks. We’ll have some more fun tomorrow.

Brute Force Cybernetics Turtle
Tinius the Cybernetic Turtle c1950 – An engineering student takes a robot through its paces, 1950.  [RH-2013- Although looking like a turtle (tortoise) which suggests being a Grey Walter-inspired machines, With it two “eyes” appearing as though it is fixed to the steering, suggests more that it is just phototropic i.e. it is attracted to and will follow a light source as per Norbert Wiener’s Moth.]

R.U.R. Robot

Wednesday, 18 May 2011

Looks like the tin man’s wants to pop Dorothy because Toto peed on his leg. Fortunately he’s been restrained. He wasn’t a nice guy in those days.

Actually it’s a promo for a 1928 production of the 1921 play R.U.R. [“Rossum’s Universal Robots”] that introduced the word “robot” to the world. Ever since then the control panel has always been in the front.
