“The Ides” is a day of the month in the Roman Calendar that falls on the 15th in March, July & October, and on the 13th in other months. The word is derived from the latin idus, so I cranked up Google Translate. In English, idus means ides. Go figure.

The 7 shortest rock songs to hit No. 1 on the charts. As far as I know, “Stay” by Maurice Williams & the Zodiacs still holds the record, clocking in at about 1 minute 30 seconds.
Infinite Jukebox is cool. Choose a song you like that seems to end way too soon, and it messes with it indefinitely. It doesn’t just loop the recording, it turns it into a helix so you can listen to the song until you can’t stand it anymore. So I gave it a test run, plugged in another short hit: The Letter by The Boxtops, and got this unending version – click on “play.” I’m impressed [via].
BTW, Alex Chilton, the gravel-voiced lead singer on “The Letter” was only 16 when the 1967 hit song was recorded.

Saturday Matinee – James Burke, The Offspring & Full Blown Cherry (and a Yorkshire Pudding Recipe)
I’ve posted this one before. It’s a clip from the BBC television series “Connections” (a segment from the 1978 episode entitled “The Trigger Effect“). The message is a good one, and since the missus and I are still binge-watching The Walking Dead, it seems appropriate.
Marc Bell, aka Marky Ramone (long time drummer for The Ramones) sits in with The Offspring. in 2013. This also seems appropriate due to the current rains in CA.
I don’t post many music videos that don’t have video, but I’ll make an exception for this one because it seems appropriate.

The Apache Revolver (ca. 1869)
“The Apache Revolver is the Swiss Army knife of guns. Designed in the early 1900’s by the french gang Les Apaches this weapon was easily concealed and it is said that one bullet would always be left out of the chamber so as to not shoot yourself while it was in your pocket. Its range was very limited due to its lack of a barrel but it was an effective tool due to everything it could do, this weapon could shoot, cut and hit and could be easily folded up and placed in your pocket. Sheer Genius.”
The Wikipedia entry contradicts that description. This multi-purpose weapon was presumably designed by Louis Dolne of Belgium in 1860, went into production in 1869, and was discontinued by 1900. Here’s a quick video.
